Exclamation New Scientific buoy on St Clair

Anyone else see the new buoy just north of the 400 club and about 3/4 of a mile off shore?

Its yellow and not that big and has sensors on it like a weather buoy

    Anyone know what is for?

The buoys in your link are on Lake Superior and not Lake St Clair

Prior to posting this I had visited the NOAA buoy data site to see if they have a new buoy and couldn’t find anything

I see in the link you provided that these buoys were deployed by Northern Michigan University through a grant from the Great Lakes Observing System
So I visited the Northern Michigan University site and the only buoy info is the 3 in Superior
I visited the Great Lakes Observing System site and they have no new buoys on St Clair either

This buoy isn’t your standard Weather buoy as I stated it’s not that big and I didn’t see any solar panels so it most likely a temporary buoy depending on battery power rather than solar that permanent buoys use for long term deployment

Yeah we saw and just assumed it was a weather buoy . It's not very big I agree. Couldn't find anything on it either.

Lake Superior is connected to Lake St Clair. You may not believe it but it is. Just thought this would be a helpful start and interesting

Haven’t had one in over a year. Sold mine after a rebuild and haven’t gotten the new one yet

I saw it out there as well, figured it was a weather buoy but hadn't tried to look up what it was exactly.

Next time I'm out there I'll try and get some pictures

I didn't get that close to it to see if there is any markings

Maybe there is some information on it
