    New 721 Performance

Just finished the break in period for my 721 with a ProXS Four-Stroke.

    Boat Setup:

    Atlas 10” Hydraulic Jackplate
Triple 10” Graph Mount on Bow
Dual 10” Graph Mount at Dash
    Dual 8’ Raptors
Lithium TM and Graph Batteries with an AGM Cranking Battery
    Stock 24P Fury

I have not been able to get the boat past 5800rpms and about 71mph with 2 people and a tournament load and a half of tank of gas. I have heard that these Birds run better with weight in the back, but I’m surprised that 71mph is as much as I’m able to get out of it as it currently stands.

Is it worth experimenting with other props? I should add that I’ve been keeping my jackplate around 10-11.

Those numbers sound low for sure. I would check to see if you are getting 100% throttle. These new 4s motors can be tricky to setup. You may need adjustment at the hotfoot or at the linkage at the motor. The only way to know for sure is to have the motor hooked up at the dealer with the diagnostic program.

I have run over 77 several times with mine, i feel like theres more still as i learn the boat. Im seeing 6050 rpms with a 24 fury. No poles, flush mounted graphs, wet batteries. I have alot of my tackle in the rear. Thats with 1/2 tank of fuel, 1/2 full livewells, 2 guys and tackle. Im wondering if the graphs and poles are slowing others down?

No doubt poles, graphs, etc.. will slow a boat down quite a bit. I was still hoping to get 74-75 out of it.

i've got a 2022 721 with a pro xs and 24p fury in march i hit 73 mph at 5750 rpm and thats the fastest i've been able to go. Fished this past saturday and could run 70 at 5500 or 5600 rpm i dont remember the exact rpm. Thats loaded with two guys. My dealer said i wasnt getting full throttle and adjusted it, but im still running the same speeds as before. Maybe the 2022 721's are slower than before

I got a 2021 721 pro xp with 250 no poles and I get around 72-73..I thought that was pretty good for a 21 foot boat until I got my buddy who's been driving bass boats for 20 plus year behind the wheel and just like that he got it to 76 once..You'll have to trim up and drive through the chine walk if you want those numbers..for me I just don't have the skill or confidence for that yet..

Not a 721 (921) but my purchasing dealer never adjusted the throttle correctly on my 250 4s, even though I was told multiple times they did. I took it to a new dealer at the end of the season, they ran the throttle test, did some on the water testing as well and told me I was maxed out around 93% the way they had it set. It was a noticeable difference. I honestly think a lot of dealers just don't know the proper way to set the throttle on them, or just don't take the time to do it.

Wouldn’t the throttle be set at the factory when rigging?

Probably not. That usually falls to the dealer.

My 2016 721 with a 250 2 stroke with a 25 worked fury. Lead acid batteries, dual poles, hydraulic plate with just 1 graph on the bow and a fortrex with moderate tackle load which means just tackle in the center locker. That boat was running 74-75 mph full of gas and 77 with 1/4 tank of gas. I added lithium to that same boat and went from 1 graph to 3 graphs on the bow with a 360 transducer and an ultex and lost literally 4mph off my speed between those 2 setups.

Now to my 2021 721 with a 4 stroke 250. 24 fury stock prop. Lithium batteries, dual poles, 12" hydraulic plate with 3 graphs on the bow, lowrance ghost, mega 360. with a full tank of gas and 2 people I get 72 mph at 5950 to 6000 rpm. With less than 1/2 tank of gas that same setup will be 73-74mph. By myself in the boat I gain about 1mph vs 2 people in the boat. With the 24 fury stock ive kissed 75 mph with less than 1/4 tank of gas, I had a worked 25 fury, same prop I ran on my 2016 rig, that prop I have hit 76.5mph but I no longer have that prop since it threw a blade, but what im getting at is the worked 25 fury was faster. I am trying to find another 25 fury but they are hard to get right now. I verified 100% throttle at the dealer when I got the boat. Actually I was at 100% throttle at only about 7/8 throttle on my hot foot, so even without my pedal to the metal I was still at 100% open.

All the truth here. We have added so much weight to the front of the boat the past 4-5 years with heavier trollers, more graphs, 360 ducer, Live ducer, etc, etc, etc. The only way to maximize the speed on these things anymore is to get the heavy stuff in the back, balance the weight as best as possible port-starboard, and get the prop worked to gain back some lift for the nose. Then learn how to drive it for that specific set up. I've lost 3-5mph on top end even with all of that, but still run 72-73 loaded on tourney day when conditions are favorable.....and there won't be many rigs passing me. All the other boat manufacturers are in the same situation.

That is so true. I had my boat in for motor work and I removed two 12 graphs, 360, LS and all the tackle. Before I put it all back in, I took it for a test drive. 78 MPH and I ran out of room on the lake. This is in a 2019 920 Pro XP with Dual 8' blades an all lithium batteries, completely empty except 25 gallons of gas. Tournament day she will only do 75.
