I was skeptical when a friend of mine used them. He showed me how and I have used them to find all sorts of underground pipes and wires over the past 10 years or so. And can follow its path by making multiple passes over the area. I use one or two pieces of number 10 or 12 copper wire.

A man i worked with had 2 or 3 attempts by a drilling company for water well. They drilled 300 to 500 ft, nothing! He had a man fly in from N Dakota or Nebraska to witch it. It got it the 1st try. I believe it was 200 to 300 ft. Also very close to where they were drilling. To top this off, he was on the edge of bottom land about 100 yds from Loggy Bayou. This is South of Lake Bistineau a few miles and a few miles from Red River. Witching works, just because you techies don't believe it doesn't mean it doesn't work. Kinda like faith, you have it or you don't!

My dad could do it, and I've seen my son-in-law (works for a local water department) do it several times trying to find water line in my yard. My dad would do it with a forked stick, my SIL with two pieces of a coat hanger or any solid/stiff wire. Amazingly accurate!

I have never seen it. I have heard of people that could do it though. For the record I had 811 service send out all power water and communication lines on my property using their equipment. One out of the 4 actually really marked the right spot! So I guess both systems are BS then?
I’ve found water though underground sewer pipe with 2 coat hangers, you would be surprised, it really works.
Ive always heard of it, maybe my grandpa used them once or twice, but I’m 66 now and seen it last year with a fella trying to find my septic tank top. He used wire hangers and then I did it and it really does work.
