    Electronics/cranking battery

New z19 pro, comes with a Interstate Group 27 for cranking/live wells/lights/ and 2 HDS 9 Lives + active target.. I’m going to add a HDS 12 carbon. Will a Group 31 lead acid or AGM handle this load?? Or should I put a 4th battery in the boat for electronics.

I think the Batteries + X2 would be called for with all of your electronics.

I haven’t picked the boat up yet, I’ve only placed a deposit on it. I have a feeling they won’t even have a group 31 battery in house. I do have a brand new group 31 lead acid Dual purpose of my own…. Perhaps I could go with a Diehard brand Group 31 AGM from Advanced Auto, I’ve heard decent things on them..

Should be fine with that. Typically you can fish a 12-14 hour day on 3 12” graphs with a group 31 agm 100ah 200rc battery especially if you utilize the standby features on the console when fishing and 9” units use less power than 12”. If you were running 4 units and fishing tournaments where you run live wells all day I would suggest 2 cranking batteries.

I have a Diehard Group 31 commercial grade lead acid that runs my 3 graphs, power pole and still cranks the motor all day without issue.

I do use standby mode on the unit at the wheel a lot. I very rarely run livewells. No power poles. So I’d be powering a HDS 9 LIVE + active target, HDS 9 LIVE, HDS 12 Carbon and the motor. Will my new EXIDE Group 31 lead acid battery at 115amp , 205rc, 900 marine cranking amp be enough for this workload?? Or would I benefit from going to a Group 31 AGM DieHard at 100amp, 200rc, 1000 marine cranking amps??

The excide will power it. The excide appears to be a better battery as far as accessories than the diehard. You want a battery with 1000 CCA not MCA, to crank your motor tho recommended by Mercury and both of those battery’s fail to meet that. But I will say that battery will easily crank the motor it’s just not up to par with other recommended batteries but it’s close and I’m sure it will work for years without issue.

My 2 cents, is the stronger battery for fishing tournaments and the reason you will have power to start from long day but fish in the live well for almost 8 hours need that strong stream of flow on a hot day and the battery does weakin towards that last hour making the stream or flow slower to harm your catch , just something to think about.
