Float off....Power on is what I was taught when I got my first boat.
I had to crank it up last fall when I had a dead battery. Wading out knee deep in 60 something degree water and then driving home in cold wet shoes...no thanks.
Don't worry Ma'am....
I'm only here for the Bass.
Pretty easy to understand, I can’t power load in this state. Therefore since I can’t power load locally I have no issue not doing it at places where I can since I am so used to not being able to do it here, in my state is all. Not trying to “prove” anything. Just stating my personal dealing with the subject at hand.

I power load at CDA every time...and every other lake I'm on. Gets it that last 6" up to the bow roller. With all the crap launches I fish you cant always get the trailer just right to nose it on.

Granted there are a few in S. Idaho that allow power loading. Majority of Idaho’s water is non power loading. Snake river is an exception as is the clearwater as most of that water is jet boat water and in heavy current. The vast majority of lakes are non power load. I could have been more clear but since it was a majority of our lakes I overstated I guess. Don’t feel like listing all the lakes you can and can’t.

Great point as well. I can't recall the last ramp that I used that I could winch in my boat without getting my feet wet or wading out a good bit. I don't mind it in the summer but we fish year round here and I am not getting my feet wet in cold weather.
I actually keep a pair of flip flops in my truck for those times when I might be wearing running shoes and have to get my feet wet.

please stop as it has cost us a lot of money to repair the ramps. Just asking to respect our waters as do I when I travel to other states.

Most the ramps I can get the trailer in the right spot where I can idle on, and maybe have 2-3 inches left to crank up. But even when I have to crank I just back down a bit more so it is easier

No way mine will winch up to the front roller. If you get it deep enough to which to the front roller it would be so deep it will float right off the bunks and over the trailer fender. It's impossible unless you could hold the boat in the center but would be hard to do alone. Can't drive the trailer out of the water while holding the boat. I will power load no matter what and take my chances.
I’ve been on lakes that sometimes the ramp is unusable due to to the pile of rocks from power loading. Its usually in the fall of the year. That said, I still power load, not going to deny it. I can’t fathom why the ramps can’t be extended, wait, yes I can. The funds collected by the Corp have not been put to good use, as promised, when it was first implemented. The cost to launch has also steadily increased. Imagine that.
Soon, it will be at most ramps that you can’t do it, as we can’t deny that our actions are doing needless damage, that includes me also. I would be much more receptive to not doing it had the Corp kept its word about launch improvements, but what I’ve seen done in that regards is negligible.
On Ouachita, an entire camping area is now leased out, and unless camping there, you may not use the second ramp we used to have, or the only remaining fish cleaning station in that location. It’s at Mt Harbor. I can’t even use the fish cleaning station, and I have a lifetime pass. They had a sign to not use the main ramp or garbage bin to use to clean fish or discard entrails, use the cleaning station. I tried it one time, I was not so politely ran off by a Corp enforcement officer in about fifteen minutes, informed him of the sign, he would hear none of it, it was gone in a few days. He was total jerk, and I don’t use that to describe someone very often.
There are also some nice condos on that land now, somebody is making some money off taxpayer funds that were used to build that area, while the average Joe is on the outside looking in.

I didn't have a clue when I got my first bass boat would get pretty wet hand cranking it on the trailer. Watched a bass club put about 18 boats back on the trailers in about 10 minutes. Went and talked with a couple of guys and one guy backed my trailer in while another guy showed me how to drive the boat on the trailer. Very nice older guys I ended up joining their club the next year.
