    Thanks for the response Joe.

the issue that I’m experiencing is my fuel system won’t hold pressure for very long, and I have to keep priming the bulb. Was checking the fuel pump and noticed this hose. Do you think it’s related to fuel pressure?

Not likely- but needs to be fixed.

Is the engine running poorly or starving for fuel?

Keep in mind- you pump the bulb putting the fuel INLET line under PRESSURE.

Once the pump begins to pull through the line, it comes under LOW pressure (also known as vacuum). Bulb may not remain hard after engine has run (but should still have liquid fuel in it).

The engine is running good...just loses fuel pressure occasionally; especially later in the day after she warms up. Sometimes I am idling around graphing and fuel pressure will drop and she will die. I prime the bulb (about 25 times) until it is hard and is good to go...sometimes for a few minutes...sometimes for an hour.

I've replaced all of the fuel hoses from the motor to the tank ( purchased through European Marine), have had the ECU rebuilt, but have since had this issue with fuel pressure loss. Every once in a while I can be WOT and it will just die...starved of fuel; but once I prime the bulb again, good to go.

I purchased the diaphragm kit to rebuild my fuel pump, but after disassembly, decided the newly rebuilt pump was fine...that is when I noticed the hose behind the fuel pump.

Your symptoms are indicating one of the following:

    -Fuel supply RESTRICTION

-Air Leak between fuel level in tank and pulse pump

-Weak Pulse Pump (assembly order, cupped/leaking check valve, diaphragm problem)

-Weak PULSE to one side of pump (gasket leak, bad reed, mechanical problem on driving cylinder).

Yeah, I have been chasing this issue for a while. Like I said, I've replaced all of the lines from the motor to both tanks...checked for anti-siphon valves, rebuilt the fuel pump, replaced the fuel switch when I first got the boat, so it is fairly new; I even had a mechanic suggest the pickup tubes in the fuel tank, so I removed those and checked those...they were good too.

I might as well rebuild the fuel pump again since I have the assembly here, just in case its something naked to the eye. I have the manual and assembled it based on that the first time, but I will make sure I pay close attention. Is there any part of the process that is commonly screwed up?

A fuel restriction is always possible, so is a bad reed.

Wouldn't I notice gas in the cowling if it were a gasket leak?

As always, thank you for taking the time to answer mine and everybody else's questions as much as you do.

Have you ever had a fuel pressure gauge connected to test pressure when this is happening?

I haven’t. The only time it happens is on the water, so it’s hard to test pressure at that point…I’m sure it’s possible - but challenging.

that may be something I need to try though…first step would be to acquire a fuel pressure gauge

After rebuilding the fuel pump today, I was letting the motor idle in the driveway and noticed a fuel leak in the Return Fuel Line (based on the manual)

Don, is this a part that I can source from you?

Yeah, I had an oetiker clamp on but I just put the screw clamp on to try and salvage that hose until I can get through this tournament tomorrow. I trimmed about 1/4" off the Return Fuel Line hose and put that screw clamp on... say a prayer for me...

I've wiped the regulator off and the fuel reappears by the shaft, so i suspect the regulator is definitely bad.

Joe, would you mind confirming the PN for the hose kit? When I look up that PN it is for Mercury Marine Fuel Pump + Strainer Filter OEM # 808505 808505T 808505T01
