250R on a slower hull
Looking at a new to me boat, an older hull not known for speed, recently repowered with a Mercury Racing 250R. I’m interested in the boat due to the new 4 stroke, but I’m reading that the Sportmaster lower unit may actually be a detriment in a boat not intended as a speed hull and may really decrease holeshot etc.
Anyone have experience with Sportmaster lower on a non- speed hull?
I posted on both the Mercury forum and the Champion forum, and one suggestion was to post it here. Thanks for any thoughts

Correct .....but it may work for you if you don't want max performance. Really dont know if you can install a TM lower on that motor .
The 300 R you can. If you could you can sell the SM lower or trade it for a SM .
Bet it would be a runner .

Sportmaster will drag like a parachute on the back, cannot be surfaced on that boat, trade it for a torkmaster. Be sure to get the correct torkmaster for your serial number. Gen II wingmasters cannot be used on motors designed for gen I torkmaster.
