    Lime/Calcium deposits on outboard.

Just purchased a very nice 2018 Phoenix. The boat is in mint condition with the exception of lime/calcium deposits on the motor. I'm not talking about lime spots but some fairly heavy scaling. I tried CLR with very little results. The motor has only 84 hours, and I know it was not left in the water. Give me some ideas what you guys have used with this problem.

I use protec to get the nasty water spots off mine and anyone else who asks me to detail their boat.

With the motor dry spray on Lime-A-Way, let soak for a minute then rinse off. If really heavy a second application may be needed.

Was working on this tonight. I used clr and elbow grease. Had tried vinegar/water mix and a few other things. I wiped it on and let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing with a rough detailing towel.

I'd think you should research your motor and see if there are any sacrificial anodes necessary on that model.

Harris 30% vinegar will take it off, just be careful at full strength. I used this on my boat ladder on some water spots I tried for years to get off. I wiped it on, let it soak for 30 seconds and they wiped right off. You can get it at Home Depot, works great at killing weeds also.

I have created a "hack" for this method. I take some paper towels and wet them down with CLR, Lime-A-Way, etc... and then they will cling to the outboard. Spray it down some more and let it soak for as long as you want. This keeps the chemical from running down your outboard instantly.

I have been using this for a long time and it works great for those spots that don't want to come off with anything else.

Water down toilet bowl cleaner. It works extremely well, is cheap and will not harm the paint. I've been using it for years.

Cheap toilet bowl cleaner and a paint rag will usually do it.

I have used 0000 steel wool to get most of it off. Then full strength CLR to get the rest.
