    question about water pressure gauge

so last year I put the boat away in the garage in September, and first trip this year in March I noticed the gauge would go from 10 psi to 20 psi every few seconds while running around 4k rpms. anything below that it held steady and at WOT it was reading a steady 25+. I have a new gauge coming in from Triton under warranty, 2021 TRX 18. If there was a freeze issue, which i have never had in 20+ years of owning a boat in VA, would the screwy reading be because there is a cracked hose or the actual gauge froze and broke? I am trying to figure this out or tell the dealer to, I would hate to have them put the new gauge in and it still be reading wacky. They seem to believe the gauge is defective. Anyone ever had one freeze? What were the symptoms?

I’ve had them freeze in years past. One time it leaked water on to my legs when I was driving. The other times the gauge never went back to zero, even with engine off. Never what you are describing though.

it goes back to 0. I checked. Maybe it is just a faulty gauge. Or maybe there is something caught up in the line.

I’ve had them freeze many times in the past. It usually just popped the water line off the gauge at the console. I would get the wet leg on the first run down the lake. I would simply push the line back in to place and everything would be fine until next year. What you are describing doesn’t seem like the line has popped off. It sounds like a faulty sensor for the gauge. Might also be something blocking the line in some way.

when say sensor, do mean literally at the gauge or somewhere else?

I had that problem, put a smart gauge in. I have a 2007 21x2, best choice I made. Everything is right there digitally in front of you. NO longer have to worry about the gauges not working
