250 R on slower bass boat

I have an opportunity to pick up a champion 206 that has been re-powered with a 250 R. I am interested in the boat because of the re-power with a new four stroke, but in reading about the 250 R it seems that this may be a bad fit for a boat that is not known as a speedboat at all. These boats are known to be good riding boats, but it seems like low to mid 70s is the absolute top that most people can get out of them. I am personally not concerned with absolute top in speed, but I do want the boat to be able to lift and get a good whole shot. Any thoughts on the fit of a 250 R on a slower bass hull?

Interested in hearing more about this. My Champ 206 is a mid 70's with the XB but that's it turning a Croix worked Tempest 26.

Been wondering about repowering and a complete going over not that it really doesn't need it. I'm waiting on more information on the New Suzuki 250 SS is on my list. But admit the new v8 sounds good but I'm not sure it will stand up as well as the XB Workhorse.

Yes. Trying to get answers from people who know the boat and maybe also from those who primarily know the motor. Thanks

250 only comes with a sport master doesn’t it? 300 can get either. Don’t think the sport would do well on a champion but could be wrong

Yes sir. But more than one have sold the SM and bought a TM. After figuring out the SM will only hurt performance on all but a few bass boats.

Definitely won't perform properly with a Sportmaster on that hull.

    Got pictures of the gearcase?
