    Gas mileage!

OK so I tow a Champion 206 with a dual axle trailer and a 250 PRO XS. I get 12.8 MPG on the highway. My vehicle is a 2003 Tahoe 4x4 with a 5.3L gas engine.

    What do you tow?
What is your MPG on the freeway?
Make and model of Vehicle, motor size, year, 4x4?, and any other pertinent info.

    Love to see the differences.

2015 GMC Sierra. Gauge says 13.3 as if I'm driving the truck I'm probably pulling my boat. 5.3L 2WD .308 rear. I have a heavy fiberglass cap on my truck. Before the cap I'd get about 17 pulling the boat.

17 MPG with a boat is really good. I just got 12 MPG with the boat. A little less as I was driving in the mountains.

That is one heavy truck. Likely the main reason for low gas mileage. But that beast can tow a mountain I understand. 24,000 LB tow capacity!

Hey Matt! I know you have the same boat as I do! Good comparison.

What is odd is that with my 2003 Tahoe, I get 17 to 18 on freeway but with a boat it drops dramatically to around 12 to 13 depending on the terrain.

2005 z71 crew cab 5.3, leveled on 285s, 3:42 rear end, tuned and running 93 octane.
East Texas, mix of flat ground and rolling hills:
10-12 average towing through the city and 70mph on the highways
14-15 average unloaded in the city and 75-80 on the highway
The old Vortec 5.3s and 4l60e are turds for towing just about everything, but a professional tune will really make you grin

Keep mind mind most people go by the computer readout for their MPG which isn't accurate. Unless your numbers are hand calculated they mean nothing.

I just got 12.1 riding at 65 to 70 MPH for a 240 mile partially hilly ride. That is with boat.

The gas mileage difference are still not worth the cost of a new car for me. I purchased my 2003 Tahoe with 48k miles on it for 14K back in 2010. I have now 120k miles on it and it still runs real well. My wife has the same car ( we both have the same car, LOL ) and I know this vehicle real well and can repair just about anything on it. Just changed out the cylinder heads on hers at 202K miles ( brutal job by the way ). (706 Castech Heads - look it up - inherent problem with this year model ). Other than this, it is just the normal maintenance and wear items with this car. It just isn't worth paying 70k to 80K for a smoother quieter ride, more power, and a bunch of electronic gadgets. Friend just purchase Ford 150 and it is loaded with gadgets and super powerful but he is down 72k in the bank.

On the other hand the smoother quiet ride and the power were alluring for sure. Plus he got a massive tax write off on the vehicle.

Just dont have the funds to that I want to spare to take this plunge yet.

I think at some point we will get an electric SUV for my wife and I will just maintain my 2003. That is if California doesn't confiscate my gas engine car in a few years. LOL

2001 187, single axle, talons work as parachutes...towing with a '16 Ram 1500 hemi 4x4 crew cab. mileage depends where I'm going. If I'm going to one of the lakes within an hour of me where it's all flat, I can get 15-16mpg. Going to the further lakes that are higher/lower elevation, I can get about 10-14 depending on wind. Heading to NE I've gotten as high as 18, but only did that once. Without the trailer, I've gotten 26mpg highway.

I've hand calculated enough of mine to know that my computer is within about 0.1-0.2mpg at any given time.

That may be true on your vehicle but it's not always the case, as they get older sensors, fuel injectors, and fuel pumps start to wear out, and filters start to get plugged up all of which makes the digital readout less and less accurate.
