    G2 operating temperature range

Does anyone know general water temperature ranges I should see in my 2017 250 G2? Idling and WOT?

I have a 2019 150HP. The highest I've ever seen is 157. It generally runs between 142-157 whether at idle or up and running.

Yesterday I had mine out and idling it was ar 150ish and WOT was at 180. No alarms went off. Just seemed high to me but I don't know.
Since I bought the boat new, the tell-tale stream has been minimal.

According to the manual Idle should be 140F +- 10 degrees, WOT should be 150F +-10 degrees.

I don't think those numbers are alarming (max temp should not exceed 203) but I understand that a well functioning cooling system is critical for the G2. It's easy to check your thermostats and pressure relief valve. When was your waterpump last serviced. What psi are you seeing at idle and above 2500 rpm.

Water pump was never changed. This is only the 3rd season and I have like 75 hrs on the motor. I'm not positive on the idle water pressure but I believe it was like 5psi. I never checked at high rpm. I will be taking it out tomorrow so I will check. I also didn't run the engine for a long time.

The waterpump should be replaced more often than the recommended 5 year interval. It might be time to do yours.

I will probably do that. It will not hurt anything but my wallet. For some reason these water pumps are a little pricer than the one for my old 2006 eTec.

Here is some data from my trip yesterday. The lake temp was 45 and these temps were taken after a few minutes of the engine running and were just images of my display while using the boat. I didn't see and temperatures higher than the 179 but I didn't watch it all the time. I do plan on replacing the pump. Any other comments?

    490rpm (idle) - 0 to 1 psi temp was 139F
    980rpm - 20psi temp was 141F
    3750rpm - 21psi temp was 162F
    3750rpm - 15psi temp was 175F
    3120rpm - 16psi temp was 174F
    3590rpm - 19psi temp was 176F
    3920rpm - 22psi temp was 178F
    4160rpm - 25psi temp was 179F

My 2017 225hp has identical numbers. Temps always drop from the high 170's to the mid 140's to 150+ range when t-stat opens up. I have almost 400 hours and still going on the original impeller. I have a new impeller just been to lazy to install it. Are there any install videos on how to do it. I watched the one BRP made a couple years ago but they took it down.

Glad to hear that your numbers are the same. I did it on my last motor. It only took me a couple of hours for my first time. I bet it is an hour job for an experienced person. I just followed the service manual.

At a minimum, you need to replace your impeller.

Well after a week of searching I finally found a place that had a water pump assembly in stock. These sure are difficult times.

There are no really good videos available on the web for this procedure on the G2. There used to be one on the Evinrude/BRP site but it has been taken down for awhile now. Here is a link to a guy doing his on YouTube. It's not great. He departs from the procedure in the service manual several times and he doesn't show how he reinstalled the lower unit after replacing the waterpump but it gives you an idea of what's involved.

There are a couple of good threads on the etec owners site that were very helpful to me. You might want to check those out.

I had low water pressure on my new 2019 g2 at idle spec.was 5 in the service manual I have
The pump was putting out 3 psi .
I believe from people at dealer running it incorrectly with out water will damaged immediately before I got it .

Changed pump my self with new style pump number last year follow.my posts.easy to do just follow the sticky up at top.of.the evenrude threds. How to remove gear case . electric shift has to be in gear if I remember correctly.
After new pump installed I got 7 psi at 500 rpm .
    Big difference between 3 and 7 .
I would never have wait untill 1psi but I am a mechanic and watch my guages.like a.hawk freek.

I have to agree with you. It really was like that when I got it so I didn't think too much about it. It was a demo boat so I have no idea what they did. I never received an alarm so I thought that was they way it was supposed to be but it started to bug me so I asked this forum for guidance. I just received my pump so I may replace it this weekend. I will post the outcome.

I have some evinrude gasket sealant that is 5 years old, is it still good? If not is there a good alternative?
