How to remove fuel pick up on 2006 175 pro team

My new bulb and hose are sucking air. pulled the sending unit and saw an about 1-2" long plastic tube with stainless mesh screen laying on the bottom of tank. I assume that came off the pick up tube and that that's why I'm sucking air. Not reaching the small amount of fuel left in tank.

Cant seem to back out the square fitting going into tank that I think the pick up is attached to. Don't want to break it with too much pressure. What to do...?

Hey Tinfisher, I just took my tank out to clean and replace fuel sender and lines. Between the aluminum and poly tank I thought I was gonna break something. I took a qtip with PB blaster and put some around the threads for a couple of days. I had to wedge my gas tank against my trailer and just muscle the fitting off. I was to the point that it was coming out or I was gonna buy a new tank. On my tank the problem was that had cross threaded it and only about 4 threads was holding it. If you see the picture of the top of the pick up tube you will see the wrench mark on the side and it actually made the opening an oval shape.D8C9E475-94FB-4220-82F7-AA4DFAD11FAF.jpeg83D12068-90E1-4C4E-AD6C-BF4972C59F04.jpeg9D663A66-0F59-449F-918E-0CC586BF78D9.jpeg89223615-801F-4F9C-BE67-77043DC5573A.jpeg

Also is your float on your sender unit flat or round?
