    Question on RPM's and setup.

I purchased a new 2021 Ranger Z185, with the Pro XS 150, and doing the break in. I have 5 hours on it now. It has a 22p Tempest Plus prop and Prop to pad is 4".
It got up to 53.5 mph and 54.0 once. But the RPMs would go from 6000, to 6150, 6180 and 6200. I thought 6000 was max. Just worried about going over on RPMs. What would cause that?

Sounds like your Tempest is slipping allowing extra revs. In other words not staying consistently hooked up. My Tempest on my RT198P does the same thing. Went to a 4-blade Bravo and eliminated that tendency.

There are multiple threads/users on BBC that own your boat/motor combo and most have said they ended up running a 23p or 24p Tempest or a Bravo 1 FS to optimize their RPMs, speed, slip, etc.

Are you using the tach that came on the boat? If so, they tend to be inaccurate. Invest in a Mercury MercMonitor or VesselView to get accurate readings.

Are you hitting the Rev Limiter?

    An Update.
I have the break in done. MPH is 53.4 an RPMs 6000-6180. I tried the my old Tempest 23 plus with no PVS plugs last night, Boat was slower getting on plane and slower to reach 53.4 MPH, RPMs was 5900 -6000. I thought the 23 would be a improvement.
