    Lithium trouble

Just changed our to Lithium. Have been out twice and if I run trolling motor for like over 10 mins without stopping it stops working. When it sits a few mins it starts back. Could this be too much voltage.

Sounds like your tripping a breaker on one of the batteries. Make sure the connections to each breaker are tight

Sounds more like the breaker tripping and resetting. What motor, batteries and breaker?

I am not finding either a Fortrex or Foretrex brand battery via google. Did find a Fortrex trolling motor.

My guess would be too much current being demanded from the battery. In which case the BMS will stop the current flow. For a while.

The BMS is part of the battery.

What speed setting are you running when this happens? Are you looking at the app when it happens? Are all batteries going into fault or just one?

Sounds more like a weak in-line breaker. If you have automatic reset breakers in the TM wiring that’s where I’d start. They start to weaken every time they trip. After several cycles of auto off/on they get easier and easier to trip out.
That, and the connections at the battery and the TM plug is where I’d start.

Check your motor for water intrusion. Pretty common and often will cause a much higher amp pull… Eventually will cause motor failure.

When I changed to lithium batteries I was having same issue of tripping circuit breaker. I couldn't run my Minn Kota Ulterra at more than 75% power. In fact I read that Minn Kota says not to run more than 80% due to the higher voltage. I changed circuit breaker and was able to run 100% for short time with no issues. I do not not plan on running over 80% unless absolutely needed.

Anyhow, most trolling motors are not designed (properly) to run full power for long distances with fully charged batteries. Connections overheat unless perfect. The wiring gauge won't safely carry the necessary current. For short periods most will be O.K. but several minutes at a time, everything inside must be perfect. This sounds like a circuit breaker or current limiter opening and then resetting.

You must provide the data on your motor, the thrust rating and the current rating on your current limiters.

Some might consider that a design deficiency.

LOL. You can "consider" it a deficiency, but most T/M are wired with 10 gauge internally which isn't rated for the current they pull at full power. Any splices or corrosion can cause meltdown, if run full speed for a long rime. Not always, but frequently especially the old 1-2-3-4-5 speed types which don't use chopped DC. It is what it is.
