    Swimbait build.

Ive never built a bait but I’ve been obsessed with watching videos on it lately and want to give it a try. I build rods and have a confidence in detail and taking time.
no idea how long this will take.
But my question is…. Should I just build/carve out with wood I have laying around or order a specific type of wood?

Looks good! Almost like the Roman Made Negotiator. Just carve it out of any wood and go from there. If you need more help or need a mold created check out Row Innovations online, they build molds for many bait makers. Good luck! I throw a lot of swimbaits in MN.

Check out tackle underground, I'm sure there are discussions about that on there. I'd think poplar would be good, almost as easy to work as pine but harder.

Any wood if you don’t care if it sinks or not.

Think outside the box, use azek or similar cellular vinyl boards
They are easy to carve and shape
You just need to weight and balance the bait

I think I have my template completed. I’ll be taking 2-1” thick boards, glueing them together so I have a distinct centerline to work with.
I'm hoping to have some time this week to get it cut out and start shaping.
