    CAD Designers

Who makes a good CAD program that doesn't break the bank or require a subscription? Got a son that is interested and I see that AutoCAD LT is not an annual subscription rather than something to purchase so looking for other options.

If you can find a cheap Revit program that would be good. I really like Bentley Microstation more than autocad. But I’m also a highway engineer so we just stick with Microstation all through college. To me it’s just more user friendly

Strongly suggest searching out a 3D software. Very few industries work in 2D anymore. Fusion 360 was a hobbyist freeware 3D CAD/CAM. Not sure of current status.

As others have said, Fusion 360 could be an option. But a student version of SolidWorks would be better even if you have to pay a little.

It depends on what field he’s interested in. The A/E business switching to 3D Revit.

See if he knows what area of interest suits him because each sector favors one type of design software over another usually even if they change later on.
