USA 2000 tracker 175 txw- change 8awg wires to 6 awg for minn kota ultrex 24v 80lb

Buying a minn kota ultrex 24v 80lb . Anyone has any experience of changing 8 awg to 6 awg wire for 2000 bass tracker 175 txw? How difficult is it to pull the wires? Or you guys are using 8 awg for your 24v motor? Thanks

You more than likely don't need to change it out, not necessary. I went from a 12v 52 MG to a 24/80 Maxxum Pro then to a 24/80/52 Ultrex. I've had no issues with 8ga and a 60amp switch breaker. There's a wiring chart on Minkota's website. It'll tell you what gauge you need depending on the length of the run and the load.

Hundreds of members of the Pro Team 175 Owners Group have made the change from the Edge 45 to an 80 Ultrex without changing the wires out. You will be just fine.

As long as your wires are less than 20ft, you are good with the 8AWG. If you do need to replace it, you can usually tape the new wires to the old and pull the new in as you pull the old out.

2020 175 Tournament edition: Ultrex 52” 80 MDI IPL, I have stock 8 AWG. I do have 6 AWG. But unnecessary. Staying stock. You could always run 6 AWG if you wish

Thank you all. I am just worried about having fire hazard issues. Do you think 40 amp breaker is sufficient? I believe that came with the original boat. Thanks.

It might pop at full speed, mine did. Upped it to a 60amp and no worries. Checked wiring/battery at continuous wide open and they are fine. Get yourself one of these....VERY useful and cheap peace mind.

I just went from 12 to 24 70# Maxxum on my 190 with 8 gauge and a 60 amp breaker. Ran it hard for three VERY windy days and no problem.

I run a 24v 80 lb thrust trolling motor on #8 wire and a 60 amp breaker with no issues.

I have a 80 lb.(24v) Fortrex on my Lund, and the dealer rigged it with 6 gauge wire and a 60 amp circuit breaker, I do believe Minn Kota recommends this because at full speed this motor draws 56 amps !
