    Mercury 50hp

Two weeks ago I went out and the motor fired right up and ran all day without any problems. This has been a pretty hassle free motor since I bought it new in 09. Fast forward to yesterday. Motor would do nothing. The battery is about 4 months old and is fully charged. The tilt and trim works fine. All of the gauges are working. When at the ramp I could not here the motor make any noise when trying to start it. When I got home in the garage I could hear a faint click coming from the motor when I turn the key. I have checked and the kill switch did not pull out. Any ideas on where to look?
    Thanks

    Control in the neutral position?

Any switches between the battery and engine?

Checked battery cables to make sure they are clean and tight?

Keyswitch harness connector properly/securely fastened inside the engine cowling?

Yes it's in neutral. Battery cables are clean and secured with a nut. No there is no switch. Will have to check the connector and report back.
    Thanks.

It was the regulator. I put on new one on it and fired right up.
    Thanks

So you're saying the starter would not activate, but by simply installing a Voltage Regulator (no battery, switch or other connections were disturbed, and the battery was not charged) the starter now functions properly?

I charged the battery but it was almost fully charged. When it did it for the first time. I had just taken the battery off of the charger.

Well it seems I did not fix it. I must have a short and hit it when I was changing the regulator.

Don't forget the grounds for the starter solenoid (and connections on the solenoid).

I will guess that the faint click sound was the bad connection giving out. you can check the voltage on the hot side of the starter. it might be fine., but once you hit the ignition, it will drop out because of a loose connection somewhere. either pos. or in the ground. If the voltage drops it confirms the issue.

It's was the starter solenoid. Power in but no power out. She is good to go now.
    Thanks!
