Exclamation Macomb Co and St Clair Shore plans to dig up Lake St Clair

    Just a heads up

The County and City have decided they want to locate the St Falicity Church and Graveyard Plus try and locate the small town of Belvidere "Again"

The church and graveyard was moved in 1856 so they are basically looking for the old foundation and graveyard wall
Note it was located in 2001 by a team of divers for the state

The town of Belvidere was abandoned in 1837 due to flooding and destroyed by a fire in 1882 so again they are looking for foundations only

They have managed to get over a half a million dollars to locate, document and do a documentary film on these sites

Anyone that has spent enough time on lake knows the location of these sites and knows they are good fishing spots and I’m sure they will figure out a way to screw them up
They say they plan to mark the sites with buoys so I’m sure they plan to make them off limits at least during the work and filming

Funny they need 200K+ to find it - hell give me 100k and I’ll take you there tomorrow
Another 200K to film it and 100K for new sonar and technology and all the work will be done by volunteers?????

Sound like some county official is getting a new bass boat if you ask me

Here is one of the articles on the subject

No doubt there sounds like some back room handshakes going on there. Money doesn't add up.

Strange thing is in 2001 the state did locate the Church and graveyard and the local papers did an article on it and the state was so worried it would get damaged they didn’t give the exact location just that it’s on the mile roads

Now they are going to go out there and make a big deal of it and mark it with buoys?

As for the town of Belvidere you can snorkel dive most of it and a few years ago you could almost wade through it

First any angler with half a brain is going to mark the spots
Next every armature diver is going to mark the spots to dive later

I just hope they wait till after the spawn to start this – there are a lot of beds that can be effected if they start stirring up a bunch of sediment

I sent an email to the DNR asking if they were aware of this project and if they have any concerns of it affecting the spawn

Just got an email from the Research Manager of the North River Rd Station

He said he was made aware of this project recently
that maybe because I have brought this to the attention of Dan Kimmel and he is looking into this as well

The manager stated that there is no time frame on this project as of yet and there have been no requests for permits that are required if there is any large-scale habitat disturbance and if there is they will request that it be done outside the spawning period.

    So at least there’s that
