I have a Yamaha HPDI on an 08 Z21, if I switch to a Mercury 4s will it work with my current keypad?

If it's a Ranger key pad you should be fine. I just switched from an Evinrude to a Merc V8 and was able to use my old keypad. In changing brands I had to change wiring harnesses which adapted to the OEM Ranger key pad.

Get a Smartcraft Mercmonitor as part of the installation. It gives you all the data straight from the computer and plain language of most alarms.

do you remember how much the harness was, trying to decide if staying with Yamaha is worth the extra money.

There were several different harnesses as I upgraded just about everything on the boat, Smartcraft gauge, fuel harness, electrical harness, new control/shifter etc. Total harness cost for me was about $400 without labor to install.
