My 2004 Skeeter ZX250 trailer has shocks. Always a smooth ride.
Seriously, I'm sure none of us has ever ridden on a towed bass boat at speed, but they can't hurt.
There is not much suspension travel in a trailer. The shocks will only transfer more movement to more sidewall flex. Not always a good thing. Tandem trailers always tow better. Torsion axles even better than springs.

I want torsion axles

Isn't that why they call them shock absorbers ?
It is... It slows down the movement of suspension... Instead of the bump slamming the suspension "up" fast, It slows down the up movement and transfers more of the movement elsewhere. The bump don't move... The tires take the rest.

The shocks were shot on my 2007 Silverado. I bought a set and had them installed by a "backyard" mechanic. The ride got immeasurably better. It's quite good. Can't help but think the boat would like shocks too.
my Triton 2017 trailer came with shocks and 4 wheel disc brakes. Thing stops pretty good and the shocks make for a nice ride. Thinking about upgrading to electric brakes....

Shocks definitely reduce bounce.

Lite load and Max air pressure...will add to bounce.....My tires say 60 max but I run low 40s (cause my total load is about <2K let the tires do there job flex/cushion...that what tires DO...if they didn't need to they would make em out of steel /alum/ plastic...
pointless
If you have tires with sidewalls shocks not needed
The road to my home lake is dirt and has many potholes. I try to avoid them but I hit them often enough to worry it will damage the trailer frame. The trailers that come with Aluminum Rangers don't have the best reputation.
I have Goodyear Endurance Load Range D tires. First, will shocks help protect the trailer? And, will it cause premature wear or blowout of my tires?

The one point that is being missed here is that shocks dampen in both directions.
