I looking a 2017 and newer f150 3.5L ecoboost with the 10 speed transmission. Does this trans have all the issues/problems that are on the internet? It looks like if it has the 3.5L the 10 speed is the only trans available.
thanks!

Ive got last year's model with only 28K miles. So far no issues
no real issues with it. not sure what youre reading. it does exhibit some strange behavior shifting from 3rd to 4th or 5th when cold
I had a 2017, now have a 2021. Wife had a 2018, now has a 2021. Between horses and fishing trips they have been used to tow, especially the horse trailer. No trans issues at all, really nice to drive it.

I had a 2016 3.5 w/ the 6 speed and now have a 2019 3.5 w/ the 10 speed…. As far as driving I would pick the 10 speed every day over the 6, it’s constantly in the right gear for what you need. As far as issues, the internet says everything is garbage if you read enough reviews, the eco boost is a fad based on the internet.

I have an 18 and think I need a reprogram on the tranny. It's in a TSB I'm told. I would check it out, but also wouldn't be scared off.

I sell a ton of them and we haven’t seen one issue with the trans. Now the start up rattle is very common.
There have been some that have been reported to hunt for gears alot, and have some rough shifts. I have been running a truck, or multiple trucks (work and personal) since they came out, put 100s of thousands of miles on them in total, and haven't had one issue. My current personal truck is a 21 3.5 10spd. It has had one rough shift when downshifting so far in its life. I couldn't be more pleased with all the ones I have ran. One of my coworkers had his transmission on his work truck take a dump after a little over 100k. I never heard the root cause, but with the exception of that one, I haven't heard any bad experiences on the 10spd.
I also know several guys that have the same 10spd tranny in their Chevys and GMCs, and they have had great luck as well.
To summarize, in my experience there is no need to not have confidence in the purchase of a well maintained 10spd.

I have a 2019 and the only complaint is it’s shifts hard when it’s cold. Almost feels like it down shifts instead of shifting to the next gear. Throws you forward a little bit. Does it once and I’m guessing it warms up and it’s great after that. That’s the only thing I can say negative about my truck. Dealer said their is nothing they can do about. They basically said it’s one of the quirks on that 10 speed transmission.
65K miles on my 2020, mostly in sport mode and accelerate like a bat of downstairs every chance I get, no issues thus far.
What we cannot obtain from intelligence, we can learn from experience.
The 10 Speed transmission on my 2017 is butter.

10r80 like to be warm. 3.5 is notorious for the start up rattle. Theres a massive recall for it for them cam phasers to be replaced once it starts happening. Lots of success and lots of repeats with it i see following a few groups. I have a 2.7 10 speed and love it. I do have forscan and reset the pcm and adaptive tables once in a while.
heres the thread for reference:

Pretty sure it was the 8 speed trannys that had all the issues.
2018, F-150, 3.5, 10 speed, 86,000 miles
No transmission issues, but Ford did rebuild the valve train at 55,000 due to the "rattle" at start up.
Also did the engine software update at last service to stop any future valve noise, hopefully.
If you want some fun, put it in sport mode and floor it. Incredible acceleration.
Thanks for the info! Now to find the right f150!
I’m coming out of a 21 tundra. Funny how yota copied the ecoboost 3.5 in the 2022 tundra. No v8 offered for 22. MPG was horrible!!
I suppose I should have noted that I always start my vehicles and allow them to get up to operating temp before I ever pull away. I have always been anal about this, and this may have aided in my positive experiences.
