Minus 26… Tied my record low temp in which I’ve caught fish

Saturday morning in far northern MN…minus 26 when we woke up. We were out the door, on our snow machines, and set-up on our first spot before sun-up. The fish were immediately biting! No fish shack needed when you know how to dress for the weather. My son’s frosted tips tell the story. lol

If I ever get cabin fever so bad that I want to go out in -26 degree weather and drill a hole in the ice just to catch a fish, just go ahead and have me committed right then and there.

I thought it would be safe to eat this morning but NO ! I was certain all the goofball would stay in this morning but NO! I didn’t realize I might have needed to say goodbye to my fry.

I always thought the heated shacks with TVs and beds would be an absolute blast to spend a weekend in and fish, but this is just insanity.

Honestly, I was never cold that morning. What do we wear in conditions like that? Some thermal clothing and a thick hoodie under my Striker Hardwater bibs and jacket, arctic boots - rated to minus 170 degrees - with chemical warmers in the toes, a warm neck gaiter/balaclava, thermal hat under my hoodie under my Striker hood is three layers of head protection, and heavy mittens with chemical hand warmers in them. Was kinda like suiting up for a space walk, but worth it…50 walleyes between us over the weekend…and that part warms the heart.
