Just the block? If so, I’m looking at getting a magnetic one. Can’t help you with a set if that’s what you’re asking.

I would find a knife set with block that works for your knives. Toss the knives, but I dont buy $300 pieces of wood to hold a few knives.

Here is a henkles set for $139. Donate the knives or something.

I'm a Wüsthof Classic guy, been using the same set since school.
However, it's not going to be <$300 for even the smallest set.

Going to suggest two possible choices, both are great values.

Buy yourself a magnetic wall strip and you're done. No dishwasher.

I use ceramic... they hold their edge better than steel but are brittle and are a bitch to sharpen.

I just bought this set for our house before Christmas. I dont know how long they will hold up but seem to be alright. I had a set of knives before that would not cut through warm butter. So these are definitely an improvement. Next time i will try and locate a place to sharpen them.

You can get a Set of Zwilling 4 star professionals, or Wusthof Classics (8 piece) for around $300.00. Neiither has a Santoku knife in the set.
We spent money on the Wusthof knives we use the most. 5.5” Santoku, 7” Santoku, 4” pairing knife, 9” Chef’s knife, and a 6” boning knife.
The sets are nice, but usually have 1-2 knives that won’t see much use.
But, I can swear by the Wusthof Classics either way. Razor sharp and hold an edge exceptionally well.

Don't put them in the dishwasher and after use wash and dry them immediately. If you do those thing it they will stay sharp much much longer. I dry my shaving razors the same way and and they last up to six months.

I haven't seen them yet but I just bought 17 Zwilling twins in a knife block for $60.00 off Facebrick. My son-in-law picked them up for me I'll pay him when he comes down to the beach for a visit.
It seems like a really good deal to me I like good knives.

I have some old mottled steel Sabatier knives that cut very well too. Not pretty but pretty damn good.

Cutco....lifetime warranty that can be passed on, lifetime re-sharpening, and they flat out cut everything.

    I'm a bit of a knife snob
But the best set I've found was the Martha Stewart Pioneer women set and there cheap!

I'm buying 1-2 new Wusthof classics every month until I have a full set. Way way better than anything else we've tried.

How does a knife or knives go dull by washing them in the dishwasher?

It's the hard water deposits and blasting them with the varying chemicals that does it. They pit the metal which in turn dulls the edge. Another thing is the water pressure shifts the blade around in the metal rack which dulls the blade.

I have Henckels, Wusthof, and now a few Made In ones. Very impressed with the Made In ones.
