What size jackplate and prop for a 221 with Mercury 225 EFI?

Hello one I purchased a new to me 221 with a Mercury 225 EFI. I picking up the boat in a couple weeks. The boat as no jackplate and no prop so will need to buy both. I will be purchasing hydraulic steering as well. I am going to upgrade to a 250 eventually but am going to run it the way it is till next winter when I can re rig it. So question is what size jackplate? and what would be a good prop to try and find?

Mine has a 10”. 1997 with a 225 Mariner EFI. Runs 70 on a good day. 65-67 most days. The EFI is a powerful 225. Knock on Wood but never an issue. 900 hrs+. My fishing buddies with newer Mercs have had many issues and this motor smokes a little, guzzles some gas for sure and keeps running. The fuel economy argument never makes sense to me. Years back, a marina north of me swapped out a well maintained 250EFI on a sheriffs boat with 2000 hours, claimed all original and never a major issue, still running fine. IMO a 2 stroke Opti is a downgrade. Did I just say that, prepared to take a verbal beating. FYI, regardless of the engine, you will love the boat.

Thank you for the response's. Looks like either an 8 or a 10 will be fine.

    I run a 10” H on a 99’ 221. Now my motor is a 300 but I’m thinking with a 225 I’d probably go with a 8”. Good luck.

I have an 8" rite hite that came with my 1998 221 DCX elite. 225 EFI. I run a 4 blade 25" custom prop because I like the hole shot. Top end is 65mph.
