The power poles vs spotlock thread got me thinking, how many different bodies of water do you fish in an average season? Some guys were saying I only fish Lake X and poles are worthless to me, while others were saying I only fish 5 feet or less so poles are the cats meow and I don't "need" spotlock. Do you only fish one lake or do you venture out to multiple lakes thru the season?
Up here in Minnesota we have a bunch of different lakes and rivers, and a lot of them offer great fishing. I had my boat out 76 times last year and hit 31 different bodies of water all over the state. I keep a running note in my phone of the date, body of water, and who was with me. I don't log fish cause I don't have that kinda time, but I do keep track of the trips and we try to get a photo every time we are out. We started the day after the ice went out in March on one of my favorite lakes and fished until after ice started forming on most lakes, switching over to the river for the last outings.
And as far as poles vs spotlock, I have an Ultrex and on my old boat I had a manual pole I would use, but I haven't found a good way to mount that on the new boat, but if I do I will continue to use the manual pole. A set of poles or raptors are in the future at some point, but they are more of a want than a need. Fishing wind blown rock piles in the middle of a lake for smallies, spotlock is a necessity in my book.
