Jigs and Rattles

I usually always use a rattle when I jig fish. Wondering what everyone else does.

The jigs I've used that had rattles usually break off pretty quick and they still catch fish so not sure they help all that much.

I used to, but I really don’t feel that it is a “game changer”. It’s not a very cost efficient add on. I catch just a many without. I love a jigNpig. It’s one of my favorite year round lures. You won’t catch me without one.

Sorry I have to jump in on this one. I don't use rattles on my jigs but wanted to reply to this comment.

As kids we used to snorkel in the rice patty fields down south. Those fields were irrigated by huge wells that would pump water into large holding ponds. These ponds were crystal clear and we would dive down and chase and catch crawdads on the bottom. When the dads were racing away to escape they would make a ticking noise with every swipe of their tail.

You are 100% correct. Crawdads don't rattle. But I can confirm that they do make a ticking noise (quite loud actually) when hauling ass . . . as in escaping a predator. Didn't mean to derail the conversation.

Every one of my flipping jigs has one or two rattles....yes its a bit more of a hassle but PB flipping a jig with rattles is 12lbs 12 oz ...so just sayin.....

Crawfish click their claws together so that's why I use a rattle.

No rattles on jigs for me. Tubes, yes. Jigs, no.
