New wiring and battery for electronics

I am having an Ionic 125 installed as an electronics battery and new wiring from the battery to the bow, including a new fuse box for future growth. I also want a switch to turn off the electronics prior to charging, or if not needed, so what is the best switch for this task? I have a Perko switch in the bilge area for the cranking battery, which powers everything at the moment.

Is a simple toggle switch workable? Is there a better waterproof switch that isn't massive I could have at the console? And is 6 or 8 gauge wire the best choice for the rewire? Any other tips, since this job will all be done at the same time?

I am leaving everything other than electronics connected to the cranking battery for power, which is an X2 31 AGM....

This article with embedded video describes the process you are starting, and should provide some useful information:

Thanks, yes I ordered this one: Blue Sea 9003e E-Series Battery Switch Single Circuit On/Off

Which is what I was looking for and should be perfect for my application.

So, it will look like this using 8 gauge wire: IONIC 125AH BATTERY > BLUE SEA ON/OFF SWITCH > FUSE BOX > CONSOLE HDS LIVE 12 > BOW CARBON 16.

Everything else will be on the cranking battery, which is an X2 31 AGM from Batteries Plus.

You can use 10ga off the fuse panel to graphs it's future proof and easier to connect to the small plug harness wires with stepdown connectors imho

Sounds good, I know he was going to run 8 to the switch, so maybe 8 will go on down the line to the fuse box and then 10 to the units. I'll mention it to him, thanks for the tip...

I run a pre made heavy gauge battery cable to the switch and 8ga from there to the fuse panel.... Simplifies it a little bit.

Mentioned in another thread. Try this place if you want to buy quality tinned marine wire with custom terminations. I’ve had great success using their products. I had one termination on a 6 AWG cable that felt was substandard (IMHO). Called them, and they overnighted me a replacement.

For wire sizing based on wire length and power consumption, I recommend this chart: http://assets.bluesea.com/files/reso...on_chartlg.jpg

It was very helpful in my decision making for wire size for my new electronics installation.
