Garmin Tip: How to hide menu bar for more screen space

Here’s a quick tutorial to hide the menu bar at the bottom of Garmin sonar units. This frees up more screen space, especially valuable when viewing LiveScope or maps/sonar on a split screen. The menu bar is still there, you just need to swipe up from the bottom to bring it back when you need it.

I did this on an EchoMap Ultra 106sv. Depending on your model & software version, the steps on your unit could be slightly different, but this feature is available on most Garmin units.

Watch this quick video to see how:

I use this on my small 7" unit but on the 106 I use for LS I keep the menu visible because when you touch the screen to get the menu to pop up I always end up pausing the LS screen

Tip worked on a 943 and 8612 on the latest software load. Slightly different: Home > settings > preferences > menu bar = auto

Yes, an on/off would be nice, although I would probably just leave it on all the time.

Excellent way to freeze the frame for a screenshot recording or a camera pic.

Just pause, then slide the center of the crosshair to any corner and then you can take all the time in the world to hold that darn Home button to capture the screenshot.
