    otters ??

what's the opinion of otters in our lakes ?Dock fishing has about come to a end with the little varmits taking over. We have seen a couple families of 3 or 4. And the occasional fish seem to have disappeared. Even the shiner guys haven't caught mudfish, pickeral or gar.I did a google search on them and was amazed at some of he stories.

Shoot and toss, where/when legal, if they're in your own pond.
Otherwise, leave 'em alone, they're part of our natural environment.
They taste like seals, strong & bloody. Like liver kinda, but X10.

I jokingly said choot em. I just came back from my dock/pontoon where they shat upon on my seats and chewed a wiring harness. My neighbor’s dock is absolutely covered in crap! There is about a 5 pound pile on his jet ski ramp.

Looks like they also hold a low opinion of jet skis.

They are one of the few animals that kill for fun. They will wipe out a fish population because they can. As someone else posted, choot 'em or risk losing all your fish.

a single family group of otters in a small pond or lake will completely decimate the bass population. I know this from experience.

There has to be some truth to the "they will ruin a lake" stories.

I used to fish a smallish lake that held some nice and very nice fish. Then one summer I noticed there were otters there, never seen them there before.

Since that Summer that Lake has gone down hill to the point it's almost not worth fishing there anymore.

some of us were discussing the situation this morning. One guy said " when they've destroyed a lake they just move on to another."Got me thinking, how do they get to another lake ? Have you ever seen any hit by a car or crossing a road ?

FWC is also talking about opening up the Goliath grouper season, they seem to be devastating the off shore fisheries along with other species.

Won't catch me targeting them. Rip my back to shreds. Young man's game for sure.

You'll probably need a camo concealed blind to get a clean shot at them. They are elusive.

Wow, timing on otter subject. Saw one 2 days ago dead in the road. First one I’ve ever seen on or around Okeechobee Lake. I saw 2 last year crossing the road going to Kenansville Lake. I’ve seen them several times on Kissimmee.
In East Tn and Southwest Va they are huge pests. They wipe out ponds overnight and the rivers and streams are effected by them in a huge way. Nothing like seeing big bass heads laying everywhere on the banks. I don’t think there is a fish to big for them to attack and kill. I’ve actually seen them swim down and catch 2 lb smallmouth in the Holston River, sounds impossible but they can do it.
They are cute and pretty animals but they are stone cold killers...
