Older Mercury's and new lithium batteries, problems?

I have a 1996 Mercury XR6 serial number, OG166883 and they suggest not to use AGM batteries, I guess they aren't compatible.
So, would there be any problem using the new lithium batteries for the starting battery? I'm looking at weight reduction as well!

Thanks. I wasn't sure if it was only for the Verado, I did read the sticky note!

Interesting....so I was thinking of buying a 125ah Lithium battery to be my cranking/electronics battery for my 1997 150 EFI.

Is your recommendation - NOT to do this?

    Thanks for your help.

It's not, applies to most all Mercury engines.

Vabass - if your engine has a stator style charging system - wet cell cranking battery only.

I should have saved the pictures of what a Mercury stator did to an AGM........Run nothing but a dedicated old school non maintenance free lead acid cell.

    One engine per post, please.

Use ONLY traditional wet-cell CRANKING batteries with your 150 EFI.
