setting up and understanding side imaging

Being new to fishing Florida waters, i was wondering if anyone uses their Structure Scan/Side Imaging in these Florida Lakes that are like an average of 6' deep.

What kind of units do you have? If you have not figured out yet, a lot of FL fishermen will bitch like old Polish ladies in a thread but last to help . If you have Lowrance let me know. I took a few classes on the water with a Lowrance expert and it did me wonders.

GTB look up Paul Gettys. He has a business called Tactical Sonar. On FB. He has great videos. He does classes in his neck of the woods you can book. I got lucky he stayed at my house on way to FLW event and went on water near me.

The shallower the waters the lower the footage to each side...sort of like 4x the depth or some such I read....fishing 5 feet I would set range at 30 feet maybe 40 max... as I recall from couple years ago...
a search should find the general guideline...

It works really well finding the last bits of grass in some of our lakes, just lower the range as suggested.

I have a helix side image sonar. I have it set at 50 ft and it works great in our box cut canals. Our canals average 18ft depending on time of year. For shallower waters i would set it lower. I dont use it at all in weed loaded areas.
