    Power trim leaking at rods

    '98 2 stroke 200hp leaking trim oil.
This is on a 201 champion bassboat
It has been run on the lower Missouri river some, which typically has suspended sand in the fast moving water.
That could be part of the cause.
Or the fact it is over 30 yrs old.
    Is this an EZ fix?
    Seal kits available?
It is only leaking where the rods come out, stored in down position for space.
Never noticed a slick on water, but there are drips on the floor.
I figure if oil can come out water can get in so want to get it right before 1st trip out probably mid February.

I had the same issue with my 2007 HPDI. Parts were available and yes it was an easy fix. You might have to order stem kits for the trim. The heads of the shafts will probably be mushroomed out preventing you from removing the caps. The tilt seals will be replaceable. Make sure to inspect your steering rod bushings. There should not be any slack or play in the motor when tilting it up.

I would recommend purchasing the spanner tools from Marine Tech if you are going to attempt this repair yourself.

It would be nice to know what 98 200 2 stroke you have. if a Yamaha like was said I would just replace the top bushing/nut assembly along with seals. CJ

    Thanks!
    Good info!
I found a marina less than an hour away with the parts in stock.

What is the condition of the tips of the piston rods? If they are mushroomed it will make difficult to remove. Sometimes the mushroom can be ground out. Mine were mushroomed and i ordered the seal kit. Replaced seals and still leaked. I ended up buying the rod trim kit. Included trim seal cap with seal already installed, piston rod with seals. It is not cheap but i was done chasing a leak. About 285 at the time for both sides.
