    Top speed of Ranger 198p

I am in the market for a boat. I am thinking about purchasing a new RT 198. Does anyone know the top speed? I understand top speed depends on weight and other variables I’m just looking for someone with the same boat and their experience. Thank you

They all vary but you should get around 55mph give or take.

That boat at nearly 20' long should have a 200 on it or at the very least a 175, I don't know why they only go up to a 150, It's a 55 MPH boat loaded that might be able to hit 60 with a light load and the correct setup. A Tracker 195 with a 150 hp is a 60+ MPH boat, I would consider one of those as well.

A 505# motor on a .100" tin hull is a recipe for premature hull and transom failure. I recognize that the 150 is 456#, but the hydraulic pressure and impact on a hull at 70mph versus 55mph is dramatic. Express has been putting large outboards on their boats for decades because they are .125" TANKS. Rangers and the others are not.

I had mine up to 76 mph. Well, Okay, it was on the trailer behind the truck.
With my loaded rig and about 1/4 fuel load I have hit 54.6 mph according to the gps.

150 Pro XS, 21 Trophy, perfect hole shot year round, absolutely loaded to the gills, two 200lb plus anglers, Ghost hanging off the bow, etc. 54mph at 5600 in the summer, 100 degree temps, 55 at 5700 in the winter, yes, great fishing platform.

I've seen 60 one time with a 10" jackplate. Since I bought the boat second hand and had no warranty and didn't want to cause the transom any issues, I removed it and installed a 4" Atlas Hydraulic plate. I see speeds of 56 with me loaded running 5600 rpms and 54 with a passenger. I also have two 8' power poles installed. Very comfortable boat to fish out of and rides very well. I try not to run it too hard. It's a 2017 with a 150 Pro XS two stroke.

Another way to state your point is that E=MC2, it’s the E that cracks a hull and C is the speed (squared).

24P Tempest on my 150 Pro XS and only get about 57 lightly loaded alone, rides nicer in the rough stuff than the Ranger RT188 I sold, but the Ranger fishes better since it doesn't sit up so high in the nose.

What are your RPMs? You should be able to get more out of it than that.

I purchased a 25P Tempest and am sending it to Mark probably this week, it will push past 6K(redline) if I'm not careful.

Yeah you either need cup added or need to adjust the prop height because if those numbers are accurate you have some serious prop slip at 23%.
