I am trying to add a hydraulic jack plate to a restored 395 with a 4.2 Yamaha SHO....Any suggestions? 8-inch, 10inch, etc...?
Anyone have one for sale?

I would stay with a 8” or 6”. Back in the day ranger said a 6” was max for their transoms
I would stay with a 6" , I had a 390 back in 85 or 86,
That hull with Talons 6 would be it. That transom is not going to do well with any more.

Thanks....what about reinforcing the transom with plates inside? Just trying to dial it in....It already has an 8-inch set-back bracket on it from the factory...Should I bag the idea?
6 inch otherwise youll be changing out the cables.. plus too much setback can cause alot of other issues. more is not always better
I have a 82 395v, the best I can remember for setup, was a metal rise plate they made back in the day. Mine ran on the transom. 95, 200, hp Johnson. Had a raker 24 with added cup. It made 64 on a good day with tournament load. It was one of the best big water boats of that Era. I would like to restore mine to the condition you have yours.
I grew up in a 395V. You have the VS which was the first 20 ft bass boat with a setback, also the Cadillac of its day. I wouldn’t put any more than a 6 inch plate on it, as recommended by Ranger. Many of these with a jackplate had transom issues over time, as did some without, but it seemed to me the extra leverage was harder on them.
