Dumb question: Why are the "wire" type gages better than the "blade" type gages ? Since you typed it in full caps, I presume there is a significant difference in accuracy.

Great risk of damaging the plug tip using traditional feeler gauge vs wire gauge.

Well I haven't been able to get it back on the water yet to test it under load, but it's now running great in the test tank. Was able to run it for about 15 minutes from 600 rpm up to 2500 and it ran smooth as glass. Before I changed the plugs idle was really rough and got worse at higher rpm. Hopefully the plug change was all it needed. Still disappointed that I'm having to replace plugs with less than a 100 hours.

Perhaps- but you have to remember they've been in that engine for right at 39 months now.
