    Re-Powering 21' XRD - Tips on Prop ?

I did a search and didn't find anything that matched my situation.

I have a 21' XRD with a 250 Pro XS 2-Stroke. I'm replacing the engine with a 250 Pro XS 4-Stroke. I've been running a 28" Bravo 1 for 10 years set 3/4" below pad. I have great hole shot and very good bow lift. Top speed w/ fishing load = 83 mph (only ran at that speed once, when I was propping out the boat 10 years ago).

I've been told (a) a 28" Bravo XS would work well, (b) "just plug 6 of the 8 holes in old prop," and (c) "get the Bravo XS but go up one size in pitch."

This will be a fishing prop. I don't race and no longer tournament fish.

Looking for advice from 21' Bullet owners who have made the same engine change. TIA

I run a 28 xs with all the holes plugged and sent the prop to Mark for a better hole shot. I think its about 1 and 1/4 below.

The new FS engine still hasn't arrived (has been shipped, but not yet delivered). So I haven't seen the lower unit -- all I can go by is the Mercury website that says "TorqueMaster Gearcase 1.75:1 gear ratio."

Why do you want to change props? You Bravo 1 should be fine.

Probably the new torque master, wing master, or whatever they call it, the Bravo should be fine

Thanks. I don't want to change unless it's necessary. Props be expensive.

If you can, try a Mercury Promax 28 pitch. That is my favorite on my 21xd.

I went from a 250xs Sport 2 stroke to a 250R 4 stroke. I'm running a sportmaster gear case, so different than the Torque but I am running 1:75:1 gears. I tried ALOT of different props (have a buddy who owns a prop shop) at the end of the day the Bravo was one of the best for me. I tried 28-32 pitch. I think the 28 Bravo should be a good all-around prop. I certainly wouldn't spend any money on props until you try it, I think you have exactly the prop you need.
