Blown Power Head on 2013 SHO (Cost)

    Hey guys,

I have a 2013 Yamaha SHO that has a blown power head. The dealer is quoting $16,000 to get it fixed. Does it really cost that much to fix?

    Thanks

A blown power head to me has little meaning. Could be minor damage or could be major damage. Minor being say loss of compression in a hole or two. Major being say where rods and pistons depart the innards of the block and take out a lot of expensive accessories in so doing.

    $16,000 seems high. Very high.

Cost of a long block today from Yamaha is $11,200 and some change.

I'd call Hydro Tec or Chris Carson and see what they have to say. I would buy new before spending 16k on a power head. CJ

Contact Yamaha and ask about warranty. Some powerheads were recalled, maybe you'll get lucky!

Hydro Tec can rebuild most sho motors if the block is damaged with a hole in block or if main bearings spun the block its trashed and will need a replacement power head broken cranks can be replaced and if the cylinder liners are damaged they can be recoated

Hi performance parts or a Yamaha power head visit

Yeah I faced the same deal 2 years ago when my 2011 (w/ a rebuilt PH in 2016) blew. I was quoted about 13k however the mechanic strongly advised a new motor ... he said once a motor has popped twice throwing another 13k at it just "wasn't worth it". I agreed and took advantage of a Yamaha 6 year warranty Fall Promo and hung a new 225.

Good luck whatever you chose to do.

I don't have any personal experience with this guy, but he has a stellar reputation around here (NW Georgia) and folks travel from long distances for his rebuilt services.
    It's a FB link.

Unless you can find it cheaper somewhere else then yes it does. If it was me I would just get a new boat.

My sho 2010 popped 111 hrs and was replaced 2012 Jan.Popped the late 11 powerhead in 2020 due to crankshaft bearings with 374 + - hrs. Bought 2020 sho for 20,000 and 6 years warranty. Kept old motor for parts and good luck on your problem.
