    Jig/spinnerbait Vise

Would this work for a jig/spinnerbait vise to tie skirts to. I tie about 25 a year.

It depends on what size hooks it will hold. I tried clicking on "show more" but it won't open.

I like a mini bench vise. I have some 1inch and 3-4 inch.

Those style vises usually stop accepting hooks around size 4 or 2. Vises like the Renzetti Traveller go to 4/0 or so, the saltwater version to 8/0.

I have a vice similar to that. It is next to worthless for anything larger than a 1/0. For the bigger ones I use a small bench vice like Mike stated.

I’m sure a good top brand name vise will do the trick all are very good. My vise is a dyna king got it to hold my big hooks like 6/0 for musky flies.

If you only do a few this is the way to go. Or you could get an old Thompson style Model A fly vise for a lot less than that one.

Yeah I’m certain you’ve done a couple or 3 dozen over the years.

No need for a vice if you use 20# mono.

I started using the mono, once I could not find an inexpensive vice that would hold a 4/0 flipping hook.

Glad to hear that one holds. I was concerned it would not stay stuck down.

I wire tie heads at my kitchen counter and the only time I have a problem is if there is dirt, flour, etc on the counter. These things are like $20 max and I use the twisting wire pliers from there as well.

I can’t wrap my head around tying a jig with those pliers.

I use safety wire twister pliers as well... But not the spring return models. The manual ones work a lot better on the light gauge wire we use. I use the tapered model in 6inch

I tried to tie a spinnerbait with my wire twisting pliers. It was a fiasco. Will one of you guys please explain how you do it?

I think a small pair of vice grips will work as well.... It's not the twisting action that tightens the wire. After you wrap 2 times, No more than that. Pull the two tag ends and then twist to hold. Clip off short and bend over tag. The manual SWTP I have allow for me to cut and twist with the same tool in hand. Make sure you cross the wires before you grab them with pliers.

Thanks Mike. Two pairs of those vice grips is what I have used for years. I never heard of using wire twisting pliers until you a n Allen mentioned it. I’ll give it another try when it warms up some.

The auto spring return models are difficult. The spring has too much return and can/will un-wrap the wire. The manual pairs don't fight you back.
