    2004 195pro XL

Hey all, ran into something. I purchased a the boat this year and ran it multiple times I have noticed this boat tends to porpoise. 195 pro XL 2004 200 HO evinrude. Turning a 23 pitch raker prop at assuming factory motor height. Any insight? Haven’t found much info online about the 195’s didn’t know if this was a common issue or something on my end, I know motor height can have drastic changes but without a Jack plate (I don’t have) that could be questionable. It does have the slide style mount I’m going to assume they came with. Any insight or info would be greatly appreciated

need PTP about 3 1/2 likely also might measure to see where you are. should trim way down as the boat is slowing down also

My 2003 185 will porpoise if I trim up too much too soon. You'll need to actually measure your prop to pad and share more info like speed and rpm's.
    Slide style mount?

I have the same boat. It came with that motor. You really need a 6 or 8 inch jackplate. Mine came with a 6 on it. I ran a 25 renegade and a 26 Tempest prop on mine. I am at sea level. Try to find a four blade prop to run on your boat. 22 or 23 pitch. I believe that will help reduce the bounce you have now.

Thanks, as far as rpm etc. I’m running tournament loaded 2 guys, full live wells with fish and a half tank of fuel topped 64.8 mph GPS at around 5500-5600 (kinda hard to see the tack due to a console mounted helix 9) also noticed when coming up on pad (trimmed all the way down) once the boat noses over it will tack up pretty fast and noticeable. I’ve been countering that with trimming up faster than I had to with my old boat (389 DC javelin w/ 200 hp mercury EFI) still have that boat actually lol. I haven’t measured the prop to pad on this boat at all but it does have a “slidemaster” that maybe be around 6” setback and yes it is manual adjustment

It sounds to me that you are set up pretty good right now considering what you report via speed/conditions. Many boats will blow out on breakover and sometimes it's hard to get them set up better and still have the same performance. You can feather the throttle at the moment of break over to control it more. Your slidemaster is a manual jack plate, start spraying something on the bolts now and let it soak for days because they will likely break. (Parts are still available)
Another thing you can do, and I would do, is ditch the Raker and get a Merc Trophy plus. Get the Michigan Wheel #200 hub kit. The Trophy has vent's and you can change the vent plugs out with different sizes to fine tune your hole shot and probably get rid of the blow out on breakover.
The OMC lines of boats like 4 blade larger dia wheels from my experience.

Thanks! I will be changing the prop (boat was backed into and damaged 2 of the 3 blades ) I will look into that mercury trophy for sure, while I was checking the damage I went ahead and pulled some measurements after leveling the boat and here’s where it’s at. Concrete pad that’s level hull leveled and measuring from concrete to bottom of pad (just below drain plug) is 13” engine trimmed down and leveled center of prop shaft (center prop nut) measured 8” checked the center of nose cone on lower unit without noticeable difference. Dunno about you but that seams really low to me.

5 inches way too low if accurate i would call marks propellers next week so as not to waste money of wrong prop. a 25 or 26 should work on the set up

Here's a link to a post i made when I purchased my Stratos 185. I was originally set at 4 1/4" and was getting decent results from the boat. But my PtP measurements were allover the board.
5" PtP is too low but I would double check your measurements.

Double checked my measurements and came out the same (13” to pad 8” to center of prop shaft) raised engine to 3 1/2” below pad (I believe this to be pretty common height from factory) and also took my prop for a complete rework. Should have it back in a week or so and will update once back together and tested. Thanks everyone for the information

send prop to mark's? 3.5 should be good to start but fine if left there also

As Mact said, because your regular local prop shop that works on the pleasure boat props basically cleans them up. They grind down the blades to take out the damage and smooth them out. A shop like Marks fixes them right.
