    Question about visiting Tampa Florida

We are headed down to watch the Hogs in the Outback Bowl and will be staying at the Renaissance Hotel by the airport. It looks to be within walking distance to the stadium but I’m wondering about parking in case it’s not. How is parking around Raymond James? Is it free or will there be a steep charge? Also, what are some must places to eat and maybe some places to enjoy the night life on New Years Eve?

I’ve done New Years Eve in Y’bor City several times and it has always been fantastic. I’m not a local and can’t help on the parking question.

I highly doubt the parking will be free nor cheap. Why not get an Uber or Lyft?

That’s most likely what we will end up doing. I was just curious as to options.

I agree. It is so much nicer to use uber/lyft, especially in a city you are unfamiliar with and heavy traffic.

If you can get out to Guppy’s on Indian Rocks Beach, it is worth the effort.

Parking is plentiful around the stadium and is somewhat affordable. Make sure you hit the outback parade in Ybor the night before the game. I was hoping my Hawkeyes would be in the outback bowl this year but looks like I’ll have to ride over to Orlando to see them play.

Bet he has a kick ass spare bedroom. The stories would be worth the price of admission.

Was on vacation and it took 5+ hours to drive 170 miles today.

Don't rent a vehicle, don't try walking, use a licensed taxi instead.

Bern's is very good, priced accordingly and likely booked solid.
Other steak, Charley's or Charter Oaks @ the Hard Rock Casino.

I'll encourage you to consider dining with a local focus, Ulele.
Located on the riverfront downtown, great area to spend time.

At this point, ANYTHING worthwhile will be booked OR very close.
Decide quickly, dial them up or book online (OpenTable or Resy).

Parking @ Raymond James is $25 within the stadium owned lots.
Book them and use them, not the off site private stuff, bad juju.

P.S. Trolley operates between the Riverwalk and Ybor City.

Thanks TJ. Parking prices don’t sound bad at all. Berns is booked but I’ve found a few other places that still have some openings. I actually prefer small local eateries as opposed to the big corporate restaurants. I think we are going to Ybor City for the outback parade so the trolley would be handy.

I'm thinking that a fellow could choose from an extremely large variety of cigar vendors around Tampa.

Vendors, yes. However, I'm going to suggest a tour of the last local factory ... JC Newman.
Tours are weekdays only, except holidays (12/31 is a holiday). $15/person, about 1.25 hours.
Between the tour, the museum, the giftshop, etc. allow 2 hours, maybe 2.25 hours, in total.
Hours for the guided tour are 9-5, but they stop rolling around 3pm ... so be there by 1pm.

There's a lot to do in Tampa. We have nearly every pro sport here - MLB, NFL, NHL and MLS.
If you want to head to a beach, I'd be happy to provide options depending on preferences.
One major suggestion - do not venture into shady areas. It's too easy to become a statistic.

Are there "Shady Area" signs warning when you're about to enter shady areas? I've ended up in shady areas of major a metropolis when arbitrarily taking a wrong exit. . . and then it was too late and the panic was on to find a way out
