    How to determine prop pitch?

I've got this Renegade 4 blade on my 1993 Hydra Sports LS200 with a 93 Johnson GT200 Venom (VJ200SLETC). Had it out today and at WOT trimmed out I was running 5500 RPM. I'd like to have it propped to run 5800 RPM but I don't know what pitch is on the current prop. Is there any way to determine pitch without taking it to a prop shop? I'm also curious about swapping to a 3 blade. Here's a pic of the prop.

That prop is in rough shape. Rpms wont be accurate in that condition. Take the prop off and look inside the barrel ends for diameter and pitch numbers...

I bet that prop is a renegade 25 pitch. Would be about right for your combo. If it's a 27 then definitely too much pitch.

So I should probably get it repaired and check my rpms before I consider making a change, right?

yes, go run it, record rpm at wot, and speed, as well as a rough time of hole shot, starting and then to break over. Then take that data and send it along with prop to be dressed. Prop shop will verify pitch, and can change pitch up or down about an inch in SS props to get you tuned up to your needs. Blueprinting costs a bit more, but the shop can really tune it up for your needs, bow lift, increase or decrease rpm, increase speed, etc...
