The ability to enjoy your time on the water not worrying about winning. I know that sounds counter intuitive, but some of the best I've known just enjoy fishing. As for equipment, I agree with a good net.

A livewell that works. I use color coded cull tags and if possible a white board with an erasable marker.

    A calibrated balance beam LOL.

I second the Repala digital scale. This saves me a ton of time and rendered my balance beam useless. Secondly I would say a fast source to jump off your battery. I use to carry cables but found a small jumper box to be more efficient. If you are comfortable adding in a jumper switch even better but that requires trolling motor batteries to have sufficient charge. I once had both systems go dead.

Summer time I carry a small digital thermometer to monitor livewell temperature. A dead fish will cost you a tournament.

In my opinion the only thing you need are your rods/reels/tackle, hydration, sunglasses, reliable livewells, jumper cables and a life vest. My list of things that makes my tournament day more comfortable or easier are:

    General
1.1) Good Rain Gear for keeping dry and adds warmth when it's colder than expected
    1.2) Net
    2) Scale & Cull Tags (Rapala Touch Screen & Cal Coast 2.0's for me, I never use a cull beam except when my BB or cull fish is less than .1lbs apart)
    3) Snacks I can eat while idling my boat through no wake areas

    Larger Investment
    1) Side Scan & GPS
    2) Spot Lock Trolling Motor
    3) Power Poles

I would suggest the most detailed mapping software for your chosen graphs. It drives me nuts to use base maps for new bodies of water. Map chips are not cheap, but well worth the expense in my opinion.

Agreed. For those times when you don't get a clean break or you have that "not so fresh" feeling!
