Great pictures!
I had a conference in Hershey a few years ago and booked a park ranger/guide for an afternoon at Gettysburg. We rented a convertible for the weekend and the ranger drove that day. Was an incredible 3+ hours that truly enlightened me to what bravery and comradery are all about. How else to you hitch up your pants and walk next to your buddy, brother, father, uncle, cousin up that hill that was Pickett's charge. We have toured the Battle of Franklin site since then and was surprised to learn how devastating that "Picketts charge of the west" was to the confederates in Franklin. Awesome pictures. Would love to go.
My son has visited Antietam, and said he got a real eerie feeling same as when he visited Gettysburg.
Buddy sent me these taken recently at Appomattox surrender grounds. I don’t know why they loaded sideways.

Awesome...Vicksburg is a cool battlefield, too.

I commissioned USS Antietam CG-54 in 1986 named after the Battle of Antietam
I live 30 minutes away from Chickamauga Battlefield Park and drive through there often. Like said above, it can be unnerving to be there at dusk, or on a foggy day. You can almost hear the spirits of those killed there in the distance...

The ones like this, to me are a lot better to visit than the more built up tourist traps.
We also ended up at one of the Harpers Ferry battlefield areas. Have more pictures but to large to add to BBC, haven't had time to resize them

I’ve been to most all of them in Virginia. Gettysburg is cool but way to commercialized. As a relic hunter I’ve walked many a mile in their footsteps. Not all battlefields are parks, lots of cool spots way off the beaten path. Their winter camp sites can be amazing with hut sites laid out in rows and walk paths between them. Antietam is one of the real erie ones I agree. Great pictures you posted.

Cool pics. I just read a book on Johnson's Island. Now I want to get into this stuff. My parents took us to Gettysburg when I was a teenager.
My GGGF was killed at Sharpsburg on the afternoon of the 17th. Company C of the 18th NCT. I have a copy of the letter his buddy sent home to his wife informing her of his death. Took a ball in the chest running into battle as A.P. Hill arrived on the field to save Lee's right flank. He's buried there somewhere in an unmarked Confederate grave.
The list of my ancestor relatives killed or wounded at Gettysburg is insanely long. All brave North Carolinians.
