    Gear ratios

Looks like Gear Pros are cutting 1.78 gears.

Any benefit to putting those in an old v6 case for bass boat application?

Never heard of this company. Went to the web site and the parts look impressive. Made in New Richmond wi. The prices are really good. $242 for a std V6. excellent. It’s your engine but seems worth a try depending on your wallet.
The local dealer there Warner’s Dock. He used to be on the Evinrude Dealer council. Give them a call for opinions.

    1996 225 johnson (1.86) currently turning 27 tempest, 5850 rpm @ 73.5mph.
None that I can think of. Your engine is turning 1.86 revolutions to 1 turn propshaft revolution. Changing to 1.78 revolutions would hardly be worth the money and effort. Why not just add a little more pitch to your propeller ?

Do you really need more speed when you're in open sea in a bass boat ???

Oh Yeah, That would make me feel a lot more safe and secure. I would much more prefer a 1000 ft. carrier when in open seas !! Just saying...
