CORRECT Transducer location on 2012 z521?

I have seen videos on youtube by guys that are "professional installers" that go against the manufacturer guidelines on location. Spent a lot of time with garmin on the phone and they said to mount on the face with the drain plug so there would be the least amount of disturbance while on plane. Does anyone have any experience mounting here? Thanks

I would not be using a GT56 like that on a bass boat. I rig them with a GT8 through hull and a GT36

Why not use them on plane if you can? Garmin told me up to about 20mph you should have clearvu and sidevu pictures without interference. I would like that

You have a stepped transom that is the problem. I don't think you will be on plane at 20 mph so that's a mute point. Like I said invest in a GT8/GT36 combo.

According to garmin, it is possible so I would like to make the gt56 work. Can't spend that kind of money on the 8/36. Thanks guys

You can mount it on the back of the transom that is in constant with the water, problem being is that is a large transducer hanging off the transom and is very susceptible to damage.

Taking your advice guys and getting a gt36-8 bundle. The guy i talked to at garmin that said the gt56 would work is definitely outnumbered :) Just started looking but does anyone have a pic of where to epoxy the 8? Thanks

True. Not a good setup for the z521

I mount the 8 as far back as I can usually about 2 inches in front of drain plug to the right. Also when you mount the 36 don't mount it in the center mount it about 4 inches to the right. That would be right side if standing behind boat. Also you should be able to sell the Gt56 to get back a good bit of money that you would spend on the 8/36 combo quick search I found this combo for $408.

Thanks BM. I'll have to clean up the area around the drain plug pretty good. I'll take pics before I mount to make sure I'm installing where you mean. Someone had mounted the 56 flat against the bottom step just right of the motor. Thoughts?

bought them from hodges marine for $415. I'll be happy to get $300 out of the 56. Definitely worth the upgrade.

Mine was mounted next to the drain on my used 518. Had overheating problems from the get go. Water pressure would fall off as soon as I started to trim. After a lot of searching on motor problems. I disconnected transducer and ran boat no more water pressure problem. Moved transducer over and back to next step on hull raised a little. Works fine and can read until 30 mph. Was a learning experience had many scratching theirs head

Love to see a pic of where it's mounted. Weird it would cause overheating....

Cavitation. Water pressure would drop off. Pulled lower unit several times. New water pump. Thermostats. Checked everything the dealership would have. And talked with them several times. Took off transducer tied it up in boat. Problem solved. Another tip is to epoxy a thick plastic block where you want to mount ur transducer. No holes in your transom. Pm me your number I’ll text u a picture. Glad to help. Had a helix that wouldn’t read at speed. Put my garmin on reads fine on a slow plain
