    Shift problem after Water Pump replacement: Mercury 2017 115 Pro XS

    2017 Mercury 115 Pro XS
    <Serial# 2B442155>

    I followed the guide in the FAQ section by TritonTRXV8 and everything went as described. Gear shift was in neutral. Had to move the flywheel slightly to get the shaft splines to mate but that was expected. After bolting lower unit back on the propeller was locked as was the gear shift at the helm(still in neutral position).

    Suggestions please.

    Have you tried to turn the prop while shifting?

    Pretty sure some how the shift spline at foot got turned ,shift it see if rev,or forward is neutral if so foot comes back down and turn the shift spline to neutral and replace foot

    There is a shaft located outside infront of the lower unit its self. That has to slide over the the splines in the lowerunit. It is about 1/4" around. Let the lower unit down and use your fingers to guide the shaft over the male splined gear located in the lowerunit. . You will feel it slide over it. Tighten lower unit up a little and try shifting again. The lowerunit will tighten up without the shaft being fitted into the gear properly. Been there done that many times

    Sounds like you were able to resolve the shifting problem.

    Double check your serial number- too many characters.
