    Motorguide throwing breaker

I have a Motorguide 24v 75 lb thrust trolling motor on my 1998 Ranger 519 Comanche. This is the original trolling motor that came on the boat from the factory and that's why I'm surprised it throws a breaker when used for very long on gear 3 or higher. Isn't this usually a sign the boat doesn't have heavy enough wire installed? And I know Ranger wouldn't rig something incorrectly. My other Ranger does the same thing. Any ideas?

You said the other Ranger does the same thing. With same troll motor or different one.
If it is the same troll motor then it is probably the troll motor. 1998 Motor Guide pats are hard to find. Get a new one.

I wouldn’t count on them using an appropriate breaker. That motor probably needs a 50A breaker, and breakers do wear out.

Yes i should have said that too. thanks John. Not really clear if it is the same motor on both boats.
I have and 08 Ranger and it has a 50 amp breaker.

Wrong size wire won't affect a breaker. If it's too small, it will add resistance which lowers current.

It's different trolling motors. The other Ranger has a Minn Kota...but both boats throw the breaker when used on gear 3 or higher.

Amps for Minnkotas. Others might be simiar. Breakers are cheap. Change to a new one of recommended amperage.

Then I would change both breakers.

Check that all connections are tight. Loose connections will trip a breaker.

Check the TM Plug. If the connection is loose, or not making full contact it will overheat and throw the breaker. Had that happen, probably from fishing in the rain !

24 volt and above 55 lbs of thrust requires a 60 amp breaker.

    Even a 70 pound 24V motor doesn’t need a 60A breaker. Only a 12V 55lb motor needs a 60A breaker.
