    2018 300xs torquemaster

Entertaining the idea of getting a spare lower unit. Currently running a sportmaster on my 2018 racing 300xs on my 21 Bullet XRD.

    Would a gen1 work or should I go with a wingmaster? Found a 2015 wingmaster from a proxs 250.

I carry a big load in boat sometimes(ghost,16" live, and active target module on bow) and the torquemaster would be a better fit for that. I know to keep it under 85mph.

    thanks

IMO, a SM is the only way to go on a 300xs.

You can run a TM if you want, But the SM will be better regardless of load.

A HEAVY loaded 21” will be fine below 85 with a Gen 1 TM. Keep in mind, the mid studs are different between Tm And sporty. They have to be changed between units.

I really feel the TM is a better suited choice for the 300XS for fishing. You are going to get a better holeshot and you'll carry the load better with the TM.

Ya but if you clean out the boat and want to go play your going to play with trouble around that 85MPH area. I'd have to lean towards the sporty. IMO. Only.

sportmaster will just not lift the boat with a ghost, 16 live at the bow, 2 people and all the tackle. I'm gonna add a setback plate to get back to 16" of setback, maybe more. If it dont lift then, a wingmaster is probably goin on. I dont care for pure speed. 0-85 is more important to me. 85 will outrun most everyone.

What's the technical difference. For not using a gen 1 on the newer models of motors. Just asking I thought the gen 1 were a little better shaped supposedly. Just asking

I’m running a SM 1.75 on my 21xdc/300xs and I love the performance. The holeshot is awesome. Running a 29 Bravo1 XS and just got my hands on an original 30p Mercruiser Bravo1 I’ll be sending to Mark. I have a 30p Pro ET that for my setup and tournament load just isn’t the best. Our water up here is really tough to run hard. I’ve only been over 90 once with the 300xs and over 90 once with the 300x. I’ve been propping this for 0-85. If propped correctly I feel the 1.75 SM will out holeshot the Gen2 TM. I have zero blowout and I’m on plane within the length of the boat. I am running a CB Foil. Was actually considering selling the Pro ET since the Bravo is awesome with a tournament load.

The trim relief pressure is different. There is a Mercury technical service bulletin warning against using a Gen1 on a 2013 and newer motor.

Ya I bet if you put a stop watch on them you cant tell the difference in time it takes to tear your arm off after it comes off the back of the boat.

I may have a TM off a 2018 250 pro xs with less than 90 hours on it. Maybe we can work out a trade deal if you are interested.

You don’t want to run a Gen 2 TM on 2011 and older trim system. If the trim caps are anodized blue, you can run either one. 16” of setback is most likely going to make the boat not lift with the Sportmaster and put more unwanted stress on the transom. I use a Gen 1 TM for heavy loads and the SM for playing around.

Going cheaper route 1st with set back. That ghost trolling motor is a tank sitting on the bow. Boat just wont lift. I had a 2012 250 with a gen1 lower unit and had no problem with it lifting. Got the 2018 300 and it just wont lift now. I have a bob's 12" hydraulic plate,

I will check tilt cap color
